Oxalic acid is known for its use as wood bleach, rust removers and fume producer for control of varroa mites by beekeepers. Oxalic acid the best known solution for treatment of grayed wood porch, sidings and fences. Pressure washes use it frequently to bring back the natural color of wood. It is also used to remove algae from wood or vinyl siding.

A solution of 12 ounces per gallon is used to remove the iron rust (caused by well water). A sprayer is used to apply the solution. It will usually take 5 to 15 minutes for the rust stain to disappear. The surface is then rinsed with a pressure washer or garden hose nuzzle.
