Fluorescein is a synthetic organic compound often used as a fluorescent dye. In solid form it is a dark orange/red powder; however, very dilute alkaline solution or alcohol solution of it exhibits intense greenish yellow fluorescence by reflected light.
Fluirescein is used for varieties of flourescence applications in many different industries.
, slightly soluble in water and highly soluble in hot ethanol. Fluorescein also dissolves in alkalis and ammonia producing a bright green fluorescence.
