103 USP Zinc Oxide Powder

103 USP Zinc Oxide is a fine, white, odorless powder with the chemical formula ZnO and a molecular weight of 81.38 g/mol. Produced by the French Process (indirect process), it provides exceptionally high purity, typically 99.9% assay, with very low heavy metal content. This grade features a low surface area of approximately 3.5 m²/g, a maximum of 4.0 m²/g, and an average particle size of approximately 0.31 µm. These characteristics result in low chemical reactivity, low oil absorption, easy dispersion and wetting in viscous systems, and reduced airborne dust generation during handling. The material complies with USP Zinc Oxide monograph requirements, ASTM D79, RoHS/WEEE restrictions, and is classified as GRAS under 21 CFR 182.8991. It is manufactured in FDA-registered facilities operating under GMP standards and is suitable for applications requiring low reactivity, high purity, and minimal impurities.

Caution:

Zinc oxide is a stable amphoteric compound that reacts with dilute acids to form zinc salts and with strong alkalis to form zincates. The material is nonflammable and has no GHS health hazard classification. It is classified as very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects (H400/H410). Avoid release to the environment. Store in a cool, dry location in tightly closed containers. Prolonged exposure to atmospheric moisture and carbon dioxide may gradually form basic zinc carbonate on the particle surface, contributing to the material's typical shelf life.
