Product Description
Cow Magnet, 3" x 1/2", curved ends
Cow magnets received their names from their use with diary farmers and veterinarians to help prevent hardware disease in the cattle.
Calves about 6 month old make a big change in their diet. They stop sucking milk from their mother and begin to eat grass. Unfortunately grass is not the only thing they pickup while grazing. They also eat dangerous Tramp iron (nails, staples, bailing wires, etc.) that can cause "Hardware Disease". If not protected with a Cow Magnet (Animal Pill Magnet), cows can loose their appetite and decrease their milk output (Dairy Cow) or their ability to gain weight (Feeder Stock) from this disease.
Tramp iron causes serious inflammation in the Cow's stomach and possibly death resulting from severe damage to surrounding vital organs.. Veterinarians usually give calves a Cow Pill Magnet at the age of 6 months. Once the cow magnet reaches the stomach, it is there for the life of the Cow to attract tramp iron. These smooth Cow Magnets are also used for Cattle, Buffaloes and many other ruminants.
Cow magnets may also be used for industrial and educational projects and experiments demonstrating magnetism, magnetic forces, etc.
Cow magnet measures 1/2" in diameter and is 3" long. They are made of Grade 5 (very strong) ALNICO magnet with a bright, metal finish. The poles are at each end.
