Product Description
A biconcave cylindrical lens, made of optically true glass with polished faces and ground edges. Also known as square lens or ray box lens.
A cylindrical lens is a lens which focuses light into a line instead of a point. The curved face or faces of a cylindrical lens are sections of a cylinder.
Biconcave cylindrical lenses diverge light only in one direction. Cylindrical lenses are commonly used in changing the aspect ratio of an image and focusing incoming light to a line. Its cylindrical surfaces focus the incoming light in a single direction resulting in a shrunk image.
In medicine, eye glasses made of cylindrical lenses are used to correct specific types of vision problem known as astigmatism.
This product is an educational grade biconcave cylindrical lens, generally used in conjunction with a ray box to demonstrate light divergence or produce diverging light rays. It is also used to show how you measure the virtual focal point of a lens. A laser ray box is recommended for experiments with a cylindrical lenses.
