Product Description
A bi-convex cylindrical lens, made of optically true glass with polished faces and ground edges. Also known as square lens or ray box lens.
A cylindrical lens is a lens which focuses light into a line instead of a point. The curved face or faces of a cylindrical lens are sections of a cylinder.
Bi-convex cylindrical lenses converge light only in one direction. Cylindrical lenses are commonly used in changing the aspect ratio of an image and focusing incoming light to a line. Its single cylindrical surface focused the incoming light in a single direction resulting in a stretched image.
In medicine, eye glasses made of cylindrical lenses are used to correct specific types of vision problem known as astigmatism.
This product is an educational grade bi-convex cylindrical lens, generally used in conjunction with a ray box to demonstrate light convergence or produce converging light rays. It is also used to show how you measure the focal point of a lens. A laser ray box is recommended for experiments with a cylindrical lenses.
