This set of metal blocks is often used to teach, demonstrate, measure, calculate and compare the density of the most common metals. It contains a total of four same size metal blocks including aluminum, copper, brass and iron. Each block measures 13 x 13 x 50 milimeters.
Since all four blocks are solid and have the same dimensions, students may simply compare the weight to determine which block has lower density.
Metal blocks in this set can be identified by their physical properties such as color, weight, and attraction to magnet. Copper has a distinct redish color. Brass has a distinct yellow color. The iron and aluminum may appear the same color; however, aluminum is light and it is not attracted to magnets while iron is heavy and is attracted to magnets.
Metal blocks may also be used to compare other physical properties of these metals such as hardness and sound. Please note that the iron block is plated with nickel to protect it from rusting. These metal blocks are very durable and can last for many years and many experiments if maintained with care.
